Dedication of the new altar. In left picture: Daughters of Charity nuns from St. Agnes Hospital on the left of the sanctuary. Bishop Joseph Brendan Whelan, C.S.Sp, of Owerri, Nigeria, Africa presided at the consecration of the Main Altar on February 13, 1954. Bishop John M. McNamara presided at the Solemn Pontifical Mass which followed.

Altar servers. Adrian Poletti, C.P. the pastor at lower right. Possibly the priest at the bottom left is Rev. George Hopkins, of the Cathedral who was Master of Ceremonies. He was assisted by Leonard Amrhein, C.P., leader of the altar servers, who is at top center.
