Father Edgar Ryan, C.P., Holy Cross Province (1903-1983)

Born June 15, 1903 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he professed his vows in Louisville, Kentucky on June 5, 1923 and was ordained in Des Moines, Iowa on December 22, 1929. From 1931 until 1959 he was professor of Latin and Greek at the Passionist Preparatory Seminary, Normandy, Missouri. He was also chaplain at St. Vincent's Orphanage conducted by the Sisters of Christian Charity. He was associate pastor at Holy Family Church, Birmingham, Alabama from 1959 until 1979 where he was called "The Walking Jesus of Birmingham" and when he left, the parish hall was named the Edgar Ryan Hall in his honor. In 1979 he retired to Daneo Hall, Chicago, Illinois and would hear confessions or visit nearby Resurrection Hospital.
