Passionists Celebrate 150 years
in South Side, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in the USA.

Pittsburgh Monastery 1860s

The Passionists arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1852. Life in St. Paul's Monastery and in St. Michael's German parish was quite busy. The following historical essays were written by two Passionists who lived in Pittsburgh during the late 1800s. Their publication here is a perfect way to celebrate 150 years of Passionist presence in Pittsburgh.

Behind the Monastery Walls: Daily Life in 19th century St. Paul's Monastery
Excerpts from Memoirs
by Brother Dominic Noble, C.P.

South Side German Catholicism & Passionist Ministry: From the Short History of St. Michael's Parish, 1886 by Father Philip Birk, C.P.
